Заказала “The Paying Guests”, так как, на одном из зарубежных книжных сайтов, эта книга была в списке 12 лучших современных британских романов. И пожалела… Видимо, то, что хорошо для зарубежного читателя / критика, с его симпатией к и полным принятием ЛГБТ сообществ, плохо для русского читателя с традиционными ценностями. В книге немало интимных сцен, описанных с излишней детальностью.
Что можно сказать хорошего о книге? Понравился сам язык, стиль автора. Встречается немало интересных мыслей и оригинальных сравнений. Точно описан Лондон начала 20 века: быт, нравы, мода и прочее. За это и ставлю оценку «3 балла» вместо предполагаемых «2 баллов».
Купила бы я эту книгу, если бы знала основу её сюжетной линии? Однозначно, нет.
