Я, как правило, не люблю грустные романы. Но этот роман был довольно грустным, и все равно он меня тронул. Временами казалось, что вот-вот наступит голливудский хэппи-энд, но нельзя читать первую половину книги, не понимая, что это не тот писатель, который собирается идти по легкому пути. Донал Райан прекрасно использует ирландский английский язык; его персонажи абсолютно человечны, но в то же время абсолютно чужды американцу. В каждом предложении этой истории чувствуется Ирландия, хотя я бы не взялся утверждать, что вы ее понимаете. Очень часто она читается как поэма и как великолепная пряжа одновременно. Я не знаю, как Райану удается проникнуть в головы своих персонажей, и даже не знаю, являются ли их голоса абсолютно правдивыми, но это неважно, потому что ты как бы хочешь, чтобы они были такими.
